no time-consuming & expensive vacuum testing

unbeatable value

versatile

unrivalled customer support

The Portascanner™ II both locates a leak site and indicates its extent in a simple hand held format. The unit offers surveyors and inspectors a lightweight, ultrasonic method for inspecting the watertight integrity of ships’ hatch covers, seals, holds, bulk heads and any other holding vessel or water-tight compartment. Being ultrasonic it can be operated even during the loading and unloading of cargo, thereby saving time and costs. The risk of environmental pollution from water run-off and non-compliance with port state rules and regulations are also removed.

Classification Society Approval:

Ultrasonic watertight integrity testing is approved by members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and Protection and Indemnity Insurance Clubs (P&I Clubs).

Defence Applications:

Naval warship and submarine watertight seals, armoured vehicle NBC seals, military aircraft airtight seal, tank testing, and naval support vessels,

Industrial Applications:

Containers, large storage tanks, aircraft airtight integrity, yacht watertight integrity, seaplane floats, soundproof rooms, and holds and hatches.

Each Portascanner™ II is supplied as a ready-to-go item in a protective carrying case including:

Portascanner™ II receiver

headphones

standard generator

extension rod

The Portascanner™ II is a hand-held portable ultrasonic receiver with combined audio and visual signal indication. The Portascanner™ II package comprises of the receiver, carrying case, headphones, generator and extension rod. The receiver converts the ultrasonic signals (40 KHz) from the standard generator into audible signal that can be heard through the headphones and a visual signal can be seen on the LCD screen, a visual indication of the level of ultrasound being detected as a bar graph. The headphones are designed for use in a typically noisy shipboard environment, to cut out most ambient noise. The extension rod enables the operator to use the unit without constantly bending down.

Operation:

To use the Portascanner™ II for checking the watertight integrity of hatch covers or any other compartment, the operator connects the rod and headphones to the receiver, selects the mode, depending on the volume of the compartment to be checked. The generator is then placed inside the compartment and switched on, leaving the access to the compartment open. Magnets on the generator can be used to mount it on any steel part of the compartment. The operator then points the extension rod towards the compartment containing the generator. A loud and clear signal is then heard in the headphones and the operator moves the rod around the opening to ensure that the sound is clearly audible at all points. The compartment is then closed and the rod moved around the seal. If there is a leak the digital and bar graph readings will increase and the sound in the headphones will increase in intensity. The rod should be moved to that part of the seal where the readings are highest and the most intense sound is heard in the headphones, in order to identify the location of the leak.

PORTAMARINE -PORTABLE LIQUID LEVEL INDICATOR

PORTABLE LIQUID LEVEL INDICATOR

NATO Stock Number: 6680-99-275 5292
NCAGE: KD983

The Portamarine portable liquid level indicator enables operators to verify the contents of the vessels’ gaseous fire extinguishing systems filled with CO², Halon and FM-200 etc in situ.

When obtaining a safety equipment certificate on an annual or bi-annual basis, the traditional means of verifying the contents is to dismantle and weigh on the quayside each individual man-sized cylinder. CO² rooms can contain anything from ten to several hundred cylinders. The simple to use Portamarine creates significant savings by allowing cylinders to be checked as frequently as desired, without either dismantling the installation or encountering the environmental problems of radioactive devices.

Portamarine is one of Coltraco’s primary products and is recognised world- wide as the leading ultrasonic liquid level indicator for marine use. . It has been designed by our in house design team to suit the wide variety of surface types, conditions and the confined space areas which house fire suppression systems on board vessels.

Portamarine uses safe, environmentally friendly ultrasonic technology and will find the levels of any liquid in a single skinned tank or holding vessel. It is ruggedized and configured for use with its multi bank extension rod for testing large, multiple bottle installations.

OPERATION

Portamarine is easy to use, It is operated via 4 simple push button controls. The levels are indicated by a row of LEDs for all lights lit above level and none lit below, or by monitoring the LCD readout for high readings above level and low readings below.

The first step to checking the fire extinguisher system is to calculate the correct level; on C02 cylinders this is normally 2/3 the height of the cylinder, on Halon and FM200™ cylinders the calculation is made via the cylinder’s cubic water capacity and the Kg fill ratio. Once the level is calculated, this is marked on the cylinder and checked with the Portamarine.

By applying the sensor above and below the marks, the LEDs or LCD readout will indicate the precise level. The Portamarine sensor will magnetise in place on steel cylinders and this sensor requires no water or gel. Simple, step by step diagrams and level charts are included in the instruction manual. Portamarine can also be used to monitor the level of many types of liquid in single skinned tanks.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

Novec 1230 fluid allows us to complement our existing range of agents as the phase out of halons accelerates in many countries around the world.

Novec 1230 fluid is known as a fluorinated ketone.Novec 1230 fluid has low toxicity and has a boiling point of 49 degrees C and therefore exists as a liquid at room temperature. Like halon 1301 it is super-pressurised with nitrogen to 25 bar. Like most other chemical agents, it rapidly extinguishes through a combination of heat absorption (its main action) and some chemical interference with the flame.

Environmental Features
Novec1230 fluid contains neither bromine nor chlorine and has zero 0zone depleting potential. The atmospheric lifetime of Novec 1230 fluid is estimated to be in the range of 3-5 days and with a global warming potential of 1, it is considered that the Novec 1230 fluid has no measurable impact on climate change. These attributes ensure that Novec 1230 fluid represents a truly sustainable technology.

Safety
Acute toxicity testing has shown that Novec 1230 fluid is safe at end use concentrations. The effective toxicity exposure limit is greater than 10% for both the acute inhalation exposure and cardiac sensitisation No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) and set against low design concentrations, it offers margins of safety (up to 100%).

Applications
Despite having a low boiling point, Novec 1230 fluid is able to be effectively vapourised over a wide range of hazard temperatures. It is therefore available to protect most hazards traditionally protected with halon 1301 and will be particularly important in Marine applications and others where high margins of safety and long term sustainability are considered to be important features.

Handling
One of the advantages offered by Novec 1230 fluid’s high boiling point is that it presents very low vapour pressures, enabling it to be transported in lightweight totes or drums as opposed to steel pressurised containers. This allows Novec 1230 fluid to be readily air freighted and as both initial filling and recharging operations are possible by simply pouring the fluid into containers, prior to super-pressurising, the filling operation is far simpler than with traditional high pressure gases.

Features:
•Zero ozone depleting potential
•Negligible global warming potential
•Atmospheric lifetime of less than 5 days
•Safe for use in occupied areas
•Existing halon control system can be adapted for use with Novec 1230 fluid
•Requires minimal storage space
•Provisional S.N.A.P. listing by US E.P.A.
•UL/FM testing underway
•Submitted for inclusion in ISO and CEN design standards
